July 29, 2009 VHGC Supporters: Three weeks from today is the end of public comment for the Draft Environmental Impact Report [DEIR]. In addition to working on community outreach and the DEIR, we've also been actively fundraising to help with the mounting legal and consulting fees necessary to save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course and protect our quality of life here in the foothills. Studying the DEIR it is apparent the proposed development would have significant negative environmental impacts on our communties. The Dominick's fundraiser was a great success. It was good to see so many community members coming out in support of the golf course! Thank you, Dominick's Italian Restaurant and the Russo family, for your help. We also want to thank all of you who have made donations directly on behalf of the golf course. Special thanks to the Shadow Hills Property Owners Association and the Whiting Woods Property Owners Assocation for their contributions to the 'Save the Golf Course' effort. Just this morning we learned the Montrose/Verdugo City/Sparr Heights Neighborhood Association has pledged a donation as well. We thank the memberships of each of these organizations for their support. Wanting to help with the VHGC cause, Frank's Famous Kitchen and Bakery contacted us regarding a fundraiser at their restaurant. We gladly accepted their offer. Dine-in or take-out, the restaurant will donate a portion of your receipt. Enjoy a great meal, savor a delightful pastry or order a scoop of Dr. Bob's ice cream and you'll be helping the golf course effort. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us! 9am 'til 8pm Frank's Famous Kitchen and Bakery 3315 N. Verdugo Rd. Remember the deadline for submitting your written comments is August 19. Public comments must be postmarked or emailed no later than August 19. Mailing instructions are available on the comment form, as well as the Environmental Impact Report web page. While you're visiting the "Save the Golf Course" website check out the new addition: VHGC in the Media. A sampling of recent articles, letters to the editor, and commentaries are available on the website. For a more comprehensive review of media coverage during the last two and half years visit TheFoothillsForum.com. Thank you, TFF.com, for providing a home for our media archives. Los Angeles City Council Special Election, September 22, 2009: This September residents who live in Council District #2 will be voting for a new council representative. Two local events have been scheduled to help voters get acquainted with the candidates and find out where they stand on a variety of issues, including the Verdugo Hills Golf Course. Finding a workable solution to protect this valuable recreational property and the quality of life here in the foothills is important.
